The Scoop on S.C.O.P.E. 296 viewsORRJHS 7th-grade students participated in the annual S.C.O.P.E. cardboard boat race at the beach at the Mattapoisett YMCA last Wednesday, June 20. The students engineer and build their boats – some sink, some sail – and this year team “Funky Monkey” came in first place. There were 15 boats in all this year, all created by teams of four. Lions Club Triathlon296 viewsUnder merciful overcast skies on July 15, the 37th annual Lions Club Triathlon found 115 participants including seven relay teams vying for first place bragging rights. Coming in 1st place in the men’s division was Brian Hughes with a time of 51:38 minutes. This two-act drama (dramedy) is about a retired couple enjoying a day at the beach when they meet a “sea creature” couple. The Mattapoisett Land Trust’s annual tradition continues with help from the folks at Brownell Systems and their trusty crane.
