Freezin' for a Reason 2014211 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. Frosty Runner Road Race211 viewsRunners who participated in the third annual Frosty Runner Road Race enjoyed spring-like weather, perfect for a 10 mile or 3 mile run through the neighborhoods of Rochester. Oxfam Fundraising Banquet211 viewsAt the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School on February 13, guests of the Oxfam fundraising banquet got a taste of world hunger when they symbolically experienced the inequitable distribution of wealth and resources during a dinner of either just rice, rice or beans, or a full meal of rice, beans, and baked fish, determined at random by which ticket guests received at the door. Egg Drop211 viewsOn Friday, April 11th, many enthusiastic Cub Scouts from Pack 30 – Rochester took part in an “Egg Drop” activity. Using recyclable materials from their recycle bins at home, the scouts constructed an egg device to protect a raw egg from a drop of 60 feet. The boys were very creative and quite successful. For this Pack 30 was assisted by Donzel of Barnes Tree Service. In keeping with an “Earth Day” theme for April the scouts will also be picking up garbage around town to help keep Rochester beautiful.
