Winterfest199 viewsORRJHS hosted a fun Friday night for Grades 6-8 on January 19, providing a ‘Winterfest’ to break up the chilly season with some heated up fun, such as dancing to a DJ, disco lights, and an inflatables room complete with jousting, bouncing, and inflatable sumo wrestling. Marion Natural History Museum199 viewsOn Wednesday, the Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had fun inspecting some of the residents of vernal pools. With the use of magnifying glasses, we studied wood frog and salamander egg masses, log-cabin caddis-fly larvae, tadpoles, and various bugs. All specimens were returned to their original pool and now the students can recognize and, hopefully, protect these animals in the future. We also had a chance to handle some sphagnum moss and took a close look at the plant's structure to see why

We spotted roseate terns, common terns, oyster catchers, some unhappy Canadian geese, and a nesting mallard duck. We also learned about the recent restoration efforts made by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife to improve drainage and provide adequate nesting habitat for the returning birds. Stayin’ Alive 199 viewsSurvival Week at ORR Junior High kicked off on the early morning of Sunday, June 17, as the 7th-graders boarded the busses for Western Massachusetts for a week of roughing it in the wild. And for this generation, that simply means no electronic devices and no Dunkin’ Donuts. Survival is now in its 46th year and still going strong. Sayonara, School! 199 viewsDark clouds and raindrops couldn’t dampen the spirits of students and teachers on June 25 when Rochester Memorial School said farewell until next September. Bandleader Chris Williamson, along with teachers and Principal Derek Medeiros, sent the students on their way with the traditional rousing music.
