Marion Natural History Museum261 viewsOn Valentines Day, the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had a chance to learn about humpback and right whales. Dr. Moore of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution showed the students how a drone may be used to observe a whale's spout to determine its health. We also had a chance to view bubble-netting practices of humpbacks, see how baleen plates fit in a whale's mouth, and discussed the hazards the whales face due to entanglements in fishing gear. On Monday, Jillian read to nine classrooms at two different schools, including Sippican School in Marion. There, she read stories and discussed the enjoyment and importance of reading every day. Sayonara, School! 261 viewsDark clouds and raindrops couldn’t dampen the spirits of students and teachers on June 25 when Rochester Memorial School said farewell until next September. Bandleader Chris Williamson, along with teachers and Principal Derek Medeiros, sent the students on their way with the traditional rousing music.
