The “Best…” and “Most Likely to…” seniors were celebrated that night, while students also mourned last week’s loss of ORR 2017 grad Becket Kiernan, last year’s winner of “Best Laugh” and “Unsung Hero,” who passed away in a California hospital just weeks after finishing his basic training for the Marines. Lions Club Triathlon307 viewsUnder merciful overcast skies on July 15, the 37th annual Lions Club Triathlon found 115 participants including seven relay teams vying for first place bragging rights. Coming in 1st place in the men’s division was Brian Hughes with a time of 51:38 minutes. 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair 307 viewsThe 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair was held on August 18 with a wide variety of produce, floral bouquets, baked goods, handicrafts, and works of art. The state first place winner for her diorama depicting a barn that contained fresh eggs and produce was Susan Guiducci of Dartmouth. There were a total of 35 entries vying for other blue ribbons in many other categories. Sue LaFluer, grange secretary and one of the fair organizers said that participants ranged in age from 6 years of age and beyond.

Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition 307 viewsOn September 8, the 5th annual Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition featured a variety of flavorful chowders from restaurants and public safety facilities from Fairhaven, Rochester, and Mattapoisett.
