Holiday Tour202 viewsThe Mattapoisett Historical Society and Carriage House opened its doors for the holiday season on Saturday, November 24. The Historical Society is having its annual holiday shop, which features a variety of unique gifts such as historical postcard and map recreations, books, and tree ornaments. Marion Art Center Show202 viewsThe Marion Art Center unveiled its new show in a special opening reception at the gallery on Friday, January 11. The 2013 Winter Members Exhibition features over 60 works by about 30 local artists, some well-known and some new to the local art scene. This is the first of two bi-annual shows that showcase work by members of MAC, from oil paintings to multi-media. Check out some of the great art work being created by Tri-Town artists. Mattapoisett Lions Club202 viewsDespite cool raining weather members of the Mattapoisett Lions Club joined together on Saturday April 20th to repair the shade shed at Ned’s Point, including a new roof. The following Saturday the members repaired the shade shed at the town beach. Both shade shed were originally built by the members of the Lions Club.

Frank McNamee202 viewsFrank McNamee gave a talk on May 1 to the Marion Council on Aging entitled, “What’s in Your Attic?” at the Marion Police Station. He discussed many of the important objects that he discovered in attics of local homes and how much they were worth. He also appraised objects brought in by Council on Aging members as well as discussing the values of objects he brought in from his antiques shop. The speech was taped by the local cable station, ORCTV, channel 9 for Comcast, channel 36 for Verizon subscribers.

Bird Island Trip202 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group enjoyed another perfect trip to Bird Island with the Marion Harbormaster’s Department. The students saw the arrival of some of the first terns back to the island, along with a couple of Oystercatchers and their eggs.
