Students from ‘fundraising rival’ Sandwich High also showed up, with scores of students and staff making a dash in and quickly out of the chilly waters. The plunge raised about $8,000. The “Best…” and “Most Likely to…” seniors were celebrated that night, while students also mourned last week’s loss of ORR 2017 grad Becket Kiernan, last year’s winner of “Best Laugh” and “Unsung Hero,” who passed away in a California hospital just weeks after finishing his basic training for the Marines. Marion Natural History Museum225 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a chance to learn to identify certain local trees in winter by their bark. Students compared red cedar bark to red pine, took a close look at various lichens and mosses that use tree bark as a surface to grow on, and counted rings in a log supplied by Hartley Saw Mill in Rochester.

Tour de Crème225 viewsThis Sunday was the third annual Tour de Crème, a fundraising partnership between the Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path. The ride started at the Town Beach and wound its way through the Southcoast, making stops at the various creameries along the way.
