Manguito310 viewsCenter School students were introduced to Latin rhythms and percussion instruments by the Boston-based educational Latin American music group Manguito during an afternoon presentation on January 24. Manguito members really captured the attention of the kids, resulting in plenty of learning while the group’s sizzling salsa and merengue music resulted in an eruption of dancing and spontaneous conga lines. ORR Pep Rally310 viewsPrincipal Michael Devoll gave Old Rochester Regional High School students a “shot in the arm” of school spirit on Friday January 31 – rather overdue for a school with a varsity basketball team currently in first place, a number of losing streaks in sports that have finally come to an end, and an undefeated debate team, among other reasons for students to be proud. FORM Concert 310 viewsThe tri-town FORM concert brought together students whose combined musicality entertained a full house. The performers sang song style selections from spiritual to jazz and the crowd pleaser “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Rochester Memorial School. Combining the voices of nearly 300 students the finale was a soulful treatment of “Wade In The Water”. Funds raised through FORM concerts support scholarships awarded each year to graduating seniors who have completed at least two full years in a school music program.

Rochester Council on Aging St. Patrick's Day Luncheon310 viewsThe folks at the Rochester Council on Aging never miss a holiday or a chance to gather together to celebrate. On Friday, March 14, the COA hosted an Irish luncheon, complete with, of course, corned beef and cabbage to mark the occasion. Irish or not, most donned their St. Paddy’s green and broke bread together with Selectman Naida Parker, who assisted in serving up lunch, along with COA Director Sharon Lally. At the COA, Irish eyes are always smiling… By Jean Perry

Egg Drop310 viewsOn Friday, April 11th, many enthusiastic Cub Scouts from Pack 30 – Rochester took part in an “Egg Drop” activity. Using recyclable materials from their recycle bins at home, the scouts constructed an egg device to protect a raw egg from a drop of 60 feet. The boys were very creative and quite successful. For this Pack 30 was assisted by Donzel of Barnes Tree Service. In keeping with an “Earth Day” theme for April the scouts will also be picking up garbage around town to help keep Rochester beautiful.
