Marion Art Center Members Show315 viewsMembers of the Marion Art Center showcased their work during the opening reception of the MAC Annual Winter Members Show on January 9. Members were allowed to submit up to three pieces, and MAC Executive Director Deborah Bokelkamp said members not only have artistic skill, but they possess the skill of self-expression. “The person doing it feels it,” said Bokelkamp. “It’s not just the act, it’s the expression.” The show runs until February 28. Eagle Scout Project315 viewsAdam Perkins of Mattapoisett has completed his Eagle Scout project, kayak racks for Shipyard Park. From September 2014 through April 2015 he managed all aspects of the project from securing funding, acquiring materials, to building the racks. On May 5 the racks where transported from his home on Abbey Lane to Shipyard Park by the Highway Department. On hand to receive the gift on behalf of the town was Harbormaster Jill Simmons.

There was a performance by the Toe Jam Puppet Band, a Birds of Prey demonstration, face painting, and a rock-climbing wall. Women’s Fund Tiara 5K 315 viewsParticipants in the Women’s Fund Tiara 5K Mother’s Day race enjoyed fine weather and fun, breaking the record of registered runners with 1,000 who took part.
