The presentation was a riveting tale of the construction and subsequent journeys of the last whale ship built in Mattapoisett and this newspaper’s namesake, the bark Wanderer. International Association of Lions Clubs President Barry J. Palmer of Berowra, NSW, Australia, was guest speaker and presenter of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to six Mattapoisett Lions. This award, among the highest in Lionism, was earned by the recipients for outstanding dedication to Humanitarian Services within their community.
