Miss South Coast322 viewsJillian Zucco of Mattapoisett (2nd from left), competing as Miss South Coast, was chosen as the first runner up in the 77th annual Miss Massachusetts Scholarship Pageant and received a $3,000 scholarship. Zucco was also the recipient of the Dr. Robert Harney Preliminary Swimsuit Award in the amount of a $250 scholarship and a $150 scholarship as the Miss Miracle Maker, which is awarded to the contestant who raises the most funds for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Mattapoisett Firefighters Association Chowder Competition322 viewsThe 2nd Annual Mattapoisett Firefighters Association Chowder Competition was well attended this Sunday, September 18, behind the Knights of Columbus on Route 6. Two categories – professional establishment and public safety – competed for best judged chowder and people’s choice. Octopurrfest322 viewsThe Rochester cat shelter “It’s All About the Animals” held its 2nd Annual Octopurrfest on Sunday, October 2. Raising over $7,000, owner/operator Pam Robinson said this year’s event was “absolutely over the top!” The shelter is in the process of building an addition to create a cat room and a porch. “I cannot thank everyone enough for their wonderful donation and participation,” said Robinson.
