The fund raiser was originally scheduled to run for two nights and to include Sunday but was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy. Veteran’s Day 238 viewsOn November 12, members of the Mattapoisett community gathered together at Old Hammondtown Elementary School for their annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. Commander Michael Lamoureux served as emcee of the event while State Representative William Straus, Selectman Paul Silva, Veterans’ Agent Barry Denham and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Scott Burrill addressed the audience. Holiday Shop at the MAC238 viewsThe Marion Art Center recently opened up their annual Holiday Shop, which features hand-made items by local artisans. The sale showcases original artwork, knitted items, crafts, jewelry, and greeting cards. The MAC Holiday Shop will be open until December 20, 2012. Check out a few of the items below. This year, due to ongoing construction at the Museum the party was held in the Sippican School Community Room. Students made baskets, ornaments, pincushions and other items from natural materials. New Year Plunge238 viewsOn January 1, 2013, Mattapoisett Town Beach played host to a New Year’s polar plunge fundraiser. The event, which attracted over 400 people, raised money to benefit BAM Foundation, Inc., a New Bedford non-profit which donates money to South Coast families dealing with members who have cancer. Klondike Derby 238 viewsThe Marion Boy Scouts Troops 32 competed in the Klondike Derby held at Camp Cachalot in Carver, MA. All of the competing towns had to use sledges and Klondike Gold Rush themes to compete in a race. The winning troop earned a grand outdoor winter adventure. The event helps the scouts test their basic camping and survival skills. Informance Concert238 viewsOn Sunday, January 27, the South Coast Children’s Chorus held an Informance Concert which allowed potentially interested members to come in and see what the group is all about.
