First Congregational Church of Rochester322 viewsThe bell of the First Congregational Church of Rochester rang above the center of Rochester for the last time this morning, November 20, before it was lowered from the church’s belfry via crane to the ground, the final step of the renovation on the church. The historic bell, created in 1892 by an apprentice of Paul Revere III, grandson to our famous bell maker Paul Revere, will be refurbished and put in storage for some time before it is returned to the church. 5th Annual 5K Turkey Trot322 viewsThere were 31 registered runners for this year’s 5th Annual 5K Turkey Trot for Marion Recreation on Sunday, November 22. The course takes runners from Tabor Academy down Front Street through the village and back again to Tabor. Rochester Christmas Tree Lighting322 viewsRochester held its annual tree lighting on Monday night, December 7, in front of the Town Hall. Hundreds attended and greeted jolly old Saint Nick as he rode in on the town’s new yellow fire tower truck. The museum borrowed the seal from the Buzzards Bay Coalition for the day, and we had fun exploring what makes a harbor seal such a successful resident of Marion waters, and learning about the hazards they may encounter, as well as why it is important to keep your distance when you see a seal on land.
