Marion Natural History Museum220 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group hit the beach Wednesday afternoon. We found many types of fish, including Puffer fish, Tautogs, and other animals such as Mantis shrimp, and all sorts of crabs. It was a great way to celebrate one of the last days of summer. Many thanks to Sarah Porter and all those parents who helped out. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Presto Press220 viewsA partnership between the Mattapoisett Historical Society and the public library allowed the sale of duplicate issues of the Presto Press, which was printed from the 1950s until the early 1990s. People poured over the stacks seeking a specific issue or year to take home for their personal archives. The monies raised will be used to defray the cost of storing the publications in a climate-controlled space. Photos by Marilou Newell

Dry Harvest220 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.
