Rochester Council on Aging233 viewsIt was thanksgiving in May as the Rochester Council on Aging (COA) hosted an appreciation celebration honoring volunteers on May 31. Balloons and festive tables, a three course meal catered by New Bedford’s Riccardi’s, music by the Relics (courtesy of the Rochester Cultural Council) certificates of appreciation and 175 gifts (one for each volunteer) were all part of the celebration.

Art in Bloom 233 viewsThe Marion Art Center’s Art in Bloom opened on Friday, organizers and volunteers gathered Friday afternoon to prepare the exhibit. Works by Mary Jane McCoy and Arthur Kvarnstrom will be paired with interpretative floral arrangements by members of the Marion Garden Discussion Group. Art in Bloom runs through July 13. The Marion Art Center Gallery is open on Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Photo by Shawn Badgley

Tri-Town Relay for Life233 viewsHundreds of residents attended the Tri-Town Relay for Life last weekend, raising nearly $40,000 for the American Cancer Society. The overnight event included a candlelight vigil for family and friends whose lives were taken by the disease, as well as a celebration for those who have survived it. Photos by Felix Perez.

Billy Joel Tribute 233 views“Falling of the Rain,” may not be the biggest hit of Billy Joel produced but the Billy Joel Tribute at Silvershell beach on Saturday had no shortage of falling rain. Dozens of die hard supporters showed up despite the rain to help support the Marion Police Brotherhood and to hear the “Eric Robert: Billy Joel Tribute.” It must be true, “you can’t stop the falling of the rain!” or stop the fans. National Night Out233 viewsThe Tri-Town’s inaugural edition of National Night Out drew a big and enthusiastic crowd on Tuesday. Residents watched the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department’s Ken Ballinger demonstrate K-9 tactics, got a feel for SWAT, EMS, and Fire vehicles; and enjoyed pizza and ice cream. Coastal Explorations II 233 viewsMany thanks to Karen Moore Dourdeville for her excellent presentation to the Coastal Explorations II summer program regarding the sea turtles of Buzzards Bay. The students were able to piece together some of the skeleton of a Loggerhead that washed up in Mattapoisett two years ago.
