Submersibles236 viewsSteering, propulsion and buoyancy were the topics at-hand during the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group’s latest program, “Submersibles” with engineer Mark Whalen. The students had a chance to conduct a variety of experiments and create their own mini-submersibles to take home. Lost Ladybug Project236 viewsGuided by Loree Griffin Burns, children headed out on May 30 from Plumb Library to search for ladybugs to photograph and document for the Lost Ladybug Project. In all, the kids found five ladybugs. The event was funded by a MOBY grant and organized by the RMS PTOs, the RLT, Kathy Gauvin at ORR, and the three town Cultural Councils. Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association236 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride 236 viewsIt was a windy ride for the 120 participants of the 9th Annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride on October 4. From Westport to Falmouth, cyclists rode either the 75-mile or 35-mile route to raise funds for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, bringing in nearly $90,000. Riders paused at Eastover Farm in Rochester for a lunch break before continuing on for the remaining 35 miles. Photos by Colin Veitch
