Tour de Crème244 viewsThis Sunday was the third annual Tour de Crème, a fundraising partnership between the Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path. The ride started at the Town Beach and wound its way through the Southcoast, making stops at the various creameries along the way. Proceeds of the ride will go towards maintaining the MLT trails and the extension of the bike path to the Mattapoisett/Marion town line. Photos by Glenn C. Silva

Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race244 viewsThe Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race wound its way along the Mattapoisett River for its 84th year. This year’s weather was a major improvement from last year’s soaking, but overall participation was down this year. 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair 244 viewsThe 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair was held on August 18 with a wide variety of produce, floral bouquets, baked goods, handicrafts, and works of art. The state first place winner for her diorama depicting a barn that contained fresh eggs and produce was Susan Guiducci of Dartmouth. There were a total of 35 entries vying for other blue ribbons in many other categories. Sue LaFluer, grange secretary and one of the fair organizers said that participants ranged in age from 6 years of age and beyond.

Marion Town Party244 viewsChalk up another successful Marion Town Party as several hundred party-goers found good food and fun on the grounds of the Town House on 8/25. Children of all ages enjoyed inflatable games, climbing the rock wall, or jumping around to music. The annual party has its roots deep in the community and may have started as early at 1900. This year’s event featured live entertainment, a scavenger hunt, and lots of good food.

Marion Recreation Department’s annual Turkey Trot 244 viewsThe Marion Recreation Department’s annual Turkey Trot 5k brought scores of runners out to the Marion village streets on November 18. Project Empty Bowls244 viewsThe Ceramics and Art I students at ORRHS created these one-of-a-kind bowls to serve up hot soup during the school’s first ever Project Empty Bowls fundraiser on November 29. The Empty Bowls Project is an international grassroots effort to raise funds and awareness of hunger.
