Circus Time418 viewsThe Cole Brothers Circus made its annual visit to Rochester's Plumb Corner on Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday, June 25. The Circus, which featured highflying aerial acts, animal acts and plenty of clowns played four shows under the big top during its two-day stay. Proceeds from the circus will help to fund children's events throughout the year at Plumb Corner such as the Annual Easter egg hunt and the Halloween party. Photo by Robert Chiarito

Plumb Knitters418 viewsThe Knitters at Plumb Library have done it again. Last year, they donated 185 scarves for soldiers. This year, the Rochester knitters made items for children, donating 46 caps for preemies at Charlton Hospital, and 19 pairs of mittens, 40 hats, 23 scarves, one sweater, and one pair of socks for "Gifts to Give" in New Bedford. Firefighters Memorial 418 viewsEight firefighters – four from Rochester – followed bagpiper Iain Massie to the Firefighters Memorial the morning of 8/24 to begin the inaugural four-day, 316-mile long Southern New England Brotherhood Ride, organized by Rochester Firefighter Andy Weigel. Rochester Fire Department418 viewsThe Rochester Board of Selectmen made it official on May 6 when they signed the contract making Fire Chief Scott Weigel Rochester’s first ever full-time fire chief. Weigel was sworn in surrounded by family and firefighters in formal dress from Rochester and surrounding towns. Outside the party gathered for photos and left with celebratory sirens. Murphy the dog417 viewsFirefighters in Rochester rescued Murphy the dog from the icy waters off of Sarah Sherman Road after straying from his family and falling through the thin ice on December 20. Firefighter Jeff Eldridge mounted an ice sled and headed 300 feet across the frozen pond to reach Murphy. The two were then pulled to land and Murphy was promptly taken to the ambulance.
