New Year’s Eve Party309 viewsA New Year’s Eve party at the Rochester Senior Center gave area seniors the chance to ring in the New Year early in the company of friends. Guests enjoyed dinner and dessert followed by the sharing of New Year’s resolutions and non-alcoholic bubbly. Balloons dropped from the ceiling at 1:30 pm after a symbolic countdown to the New Year, and guests made a ruckus with noisemakers to welcome 2016. Photos by Jean Perry

Rochester Country Fair309 viewsThe Rochester Country Fair rolled into town on Thursday, August 18, filled the air with the sweet smells of Italian sausage and fried fair food, mixed with the smoke of diesel engines, and created that magical scent we all relish until the fair wrapped up on Sunday, August 21. Tractor pulls, animal shows, kids’ games, music, and wrestling (including the match between The Aardvark and Buck Chuck) delighted us while it lasted in the bucolic setting of Rochester, Massachusetts. Homecoming Queens 309 viewsColleen Oakes, originally from Marion, and Renee Buteyne, from Rochester, finished the trip of a lifetime on Monday, July 16, having ridden across the United States on their bicycles. Leaving Portland, Oregon on May 2, the two childhood friends arrived at Buteyne’s parents’ driveway about a month earlier than anticipated, greeted by family, friends, confetti, cookies, and of course, hugs. BLM Rochester309 viewsA “Black Lives Matter” protest march drew hundreds to Rochester late in the afternoon of June 12. Escorted by several Rochester policemen on foot, participants who had gathered in front of Town Hall marched down Dexter Lane to the police station, where several individuals spoke about racism and told stories of discrimination based on skin color. SUV Fire308 viewsAn SUV was completely consumed by a fire in Rochester on Braley Hill Road, on Saturday evening, January 7, 2012. A passing motorist saw the flames and helped direct the occupants to safety. No injuries were reported, but Police Chief Paul Magee reported that the vehicle was a "total loss".
