Found Objects362 viewsAt the Marion Art Center, the artists featured in the MAC’s latest show “Found Objects” have ‘discarded’ tradition for trash. All the works on display are made from ‘upcycled’ and ‘repurposed’ bits and bobs, proving that some art literally can be trash. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Town Party362 viewsChalk up another successful Marion Town Party as several hundred party-goers found good food and fun on the grounds of the Town House on 8/25. Children of all ages enjoyed inflatable games, climbing the rock wall, or jumping around to music. The annual party has its roots deep in the community and may have started as early at 1900. This year’s event featured live entertainment, a scavenger hunt, and lots of good food.

WHALE_7021-1.jpg
Whale Watch361 viewsOn December 2, a small, curious humpback whale surfaced in Marion between Nye’s Wharf and Ram Island. Long-time residents of the town couldn’t remember a prior whale sighting. The animal looked to be about 20 feet long. Marion resident Michael Moore guessed from its size that the whale was young -- and a sight that young humans would not want to miss. Just before dismissal, students at Sippican School heard the voice of Hannah Moore, their music direction, over the intercom. Photo by by Barbara Ann Markel
