Derby Days347 viewsOn Saturday, January 30, 2010 Marion's Scouts Pack 32 held the first Pine Wood Derby in three years. The Derby was held at the Sippican School where scouts raced cars weighing less than 5 ounces down a sloped wooden track. Everyone cheered as the wooden cars raced down the track in packs or four. Marion Natural History Museum347 viewsOver the past two Wednesdays, the MNHM afterschool group visited Bird Island courtesy of Isaac and Peter of the Marion Harbormaster's office. We observed many terns arriving to this crucial nesting spot, as well as oystercatchers, gulls, and a pair of Canadian geese. We inspected nesting boxes prepared by the state Fish & Wildlife department and the habitat restoration improvements to the island. We also toured the 200-year-old lighthouse.

Historic Fire346 viewsA large hole shows the damage from the December 4 fire. According to Tom Dexter, the fire could have been worse, but thanks to the fast response from the Marion Fire Department and the house’s insulation, the house is salvageable.

The town appropriated $3.8 million for the new building, which replaces the old police station on Spring Street. Among those in attendance were Police Chief Lincoln Miller, the Marion police department, the Board of Selectmen, Town Administrator Paul Dawson, Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald and members of the Police Station Building Committee. Historic Fire345 viewsA blue tarp hides the extensive roof damage the antique house on Delano Road suffered in the December 4, 2009 fire. The fire, which started in the rear right section of the house, licked up the side of the house and left a hole in the roof.
