Marion Natural History Museum72 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum would like to thank David Orwig, forest ecologist with the Harvard Forest, for his wonderful presentation about Old Growth Forests on April 7. Orwig discussed some the tree species to look for and explained that the size of the tree does not matter when looking for truly old trees. He showed us how to determine the age of a tree, why the same species of tree might have different bark depending on age and why some of the oldest trees can be relatively small in size. A Vimeo

Marion Natural History Museum71 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s after school group wishes to thank Michael and Hannah Moore for allowing us to explore their wonderful island. We learned how to recognize different shellfish and crabs, as well as some of the various salt marsh plants. We also had fun visiting with a couple of friendly donkeys during our exploration. Thank you for sharing this experience with our group. Museum open hours are Wednesday and Friday all day as well as some Saturday hours (please call ahead first).

Crocodile River Music69 viewsOn Saturday, May 17, as part of Art Week, the Marion Arts Center presented Crocodile River Music performing West African music and dance in Marion's Music Hall to an audience of about 70 people. A few children danced happily along with members of Crocodile River Music during several pieces. For the final piece of the event, almost everyone was up and dancing. The energy was terrific.
