Marion Natural History Museum16 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's July Coastal Exploration group had a fun week exploring some of Marion's natural areas. We examined green frog tadpoles and a frog metamorphosis, were invited to explore Ram Island, visited the donkeys and learned about filter feeders, including some of the largest ones like whales. We explored a salt marsh, cleaned up a rocky beach at Planting Island and removed the plastic waste from the wrack line before it entered or reentered the bay. Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Leid

Reddy became interested in plastics in 2008 when he worked with Dr. Kara Lavender Law at Sea Education Association to study the distribution and chemical composition of plastic in the North Atlantic Ocean. The students had a chance to take a close look at some of the artifacts he's found in his backyard and were shown how to use a metal detector to help find some of these items.

Halloween Parade16 viewsThe streets of Marion were flooded with Halloween Parade participants and attendees, as members of the Sippican Elementary School Band helped the “witches” of the Marion Art Center lead a procession that began at the Music Hall and went down Front Street, up Main Street past the Elizabeth Taber statue and onto Spring Street, where children were met at Town House by staff members handing out candy for the kids. Pumpkin Palooza16 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman
