Arts in the Park118 viewsThe Marion Art Center’s annual “Arts in the Park” event was greeted by a gorgeous weekend, as cars lined Marion’s streets and visitors strolled through Bicentennial Park, ducking into the shade of white tents to visit the many artisans and their goods. Patrons enjoyed live music outside the Art Center on Main Street, refreshments from a food truck and even visited with Elizabeth Taber. Photos by Mick Colageo

Marion Natural History Museum118 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's July Coastal Exploration group had a fun week exploring some of Marion's natural areas. We examined green frog tadpoles and a frog metamorphosis, were invited to explore Ram Island, visited the donkeys and learned about filter feeders, including some of the largest ones like whales. We explored a salt marsh, cleaned up a rocky beach at Planting Island and removed the plastic waste from the wrack line before it entered or reentered the bay. Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Leid

Marion Art Center118 viewsOpen now through mid-June at the Marion Art Center is an exhibit by the husband-and-wife team of Stephen and Anne Carrozz Remick. The first-floor gallery perfectly fits the mostly petite still-life paintings done by Anne and in this exhibit. Her careful eye for color and form in these works demonstrate Anne's skill for giving you all the needed details while not overloading the view. The glass half full of water with a single stem advancing towards the lip is simple but full of expression, telling its own s

Bird Island118 viewsMany thanks to Marion Harbormaster Isaac Perry and the whole harbormaster crew for giving us the experience of a lifetime exploring the nesting habitats of the Common and Roseate Terns when they're in our area. Bird Island has had an extensive amount of work done to promote successful nesting habitat for these species, and it looks like it has paid off. The students had a blast, carefully walking around birds’ eggs and nests on their way to the Bird Island Lighthouse for a quick tour to the top to learn a

Marion Natural History Museum118 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group attempted to get to Bird Island on May 22 to visit the nesting tern population. Unfortunately, due to high winds and rough surf, we didn’t get all the way out there but enjoyed getting soaked on the ride out. We stopped briefly at Ram Island to try to get a little dried off before heading home. The kids had a blast checking out the beach and collecting shells. Thank you to Andrew Miller and the Marion Harbormaster’s office for arranging such a fun day. Pho
