Marion Natural History Museum119 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a terrific time constructing their own rockets for launching. This program was so popular it had to be offered twice! The kids had a hands-on introduction to the engineering principles of propulsion and lift. Every rocket managed a successful launch hundreds of feet in the air, and most were safely carried down by the parachutes. We found Painted Skimmers, Fragile Forktails and Green Darners as well as several Blue Azure butterflies. We learned about what’s needed for lift-off and propulsion, as well as how to add the “recovery wadding” and parachute to ensure the rocket doesn’t get damaged.
