Marion Natural History Museum 17 viewsLast week, the Marion Natural History Museum welcomed Bethany Jakubson of Amazing Animal Ambassadors. Bethany brought in some of her most adorable mammals, including a Fennec Fox (native to Africa), a Tenrec (native to Madagascar), a Hedgehog named Peter Quill, a Chinchilla and a skunk. Art Show17 viewsNow on exhibit at the Cushing Community Center in Marion are works of visual splendor painted by members of the Monday Morning Painters. The group has been meeting at the Rochester Council on Aging for years, providing mutual support and guidance as each artist works on their pieces. Marion Veterans Day 17 viewsThe Town of Marion held Veterans Day ceremonies at Old Landing, where Marion resident and retired Navy Captain William J. Hollman gave the keynote address. Presiding was the Benjamin D. Cushing VFW Post 2425 Color Guard. The community also heard from Old Rochester Regional High School freshman James Devoll, who read the Governor's Proclamation, along with Town Administrator Geoff Gorman, Select Board Chairman Norm Hills, Reverend Eric W. Osterday, and the Sippican Elementary School band

Marion Natural History Museum17 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group had a chance to learn about how our local insects survive the winter with Plymouth County Entomologist Blake Dinius. Some form galls, others go into a deep hibernation, some freeze solid, and others hide inside or under things like trees or leaves. Mr. Parker cut the ceremonial ribbon, as he was instrumental in securing the land required for the project, by working with MOSAC, BBC, and SLT. Marion Natural History Museum17 viewsAfter learning how to build a snake hibernaculum, a beaver lodge, and a bear den, the group tried their hand at creating miniatures for museum display. The beaver lodge was tested to see if it held water back and still kept the lodge dry inside. It was a huge success! Arts in the Park16 viewsThe Marion Art Center’s annual “Arts in the Park” event was greeted by a gorgeous weekend, as cars lined Marion’s streets and visitors strolled through Bicentennial Park, ducking into the shade of white tents to visit the many artisans and their goods.
