Marion Natural History Museum22 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group attempted to get to Bird Island on May 22 to visit the nesting tern population. Unfortunately, due to high winds and rough surf, we didn’t get all the way out there but enjoyed getting soaked on the ride out. We stopped briefly at Ram Island to try to get a little dried off before heading home. The kids had a blast checking out the beach and collecting shells. Fire Department Open House22 viewsOn October 10 and 11, Marion and Mattapoisett Fire Departments held open houses featuring plenty of fun for children of all ages. The occasion was the National Fire Prevention Week.
Since 1922, the National Fire Protection Association has been helping local fire departments with educational materials related to fire safety.

Marion Natural History Museum21 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's July Coastal Exploration group had a fun week exploring some of Marion's natural areas. We examined green frog tadpoles and a frog metamorphosis, were invited to explore Ram Island, visited the donkeys and learned about filter feeders, including some of the largest ones like whales. We explored a salt marsh, cleaned up a rocky beach at Planting Island and removed the plastic waste from the wrack line before it entered or reentered the bay. Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Leid

Inflatable arcade games, cornhole, an informal football toss and an undefinable ball game inside a walled octagon kept kids running and laughing, while their parents and grandparents socialized over barbecue and beverages. Halloween Parade21 viewsThe streets of Marion were flooded with Halloween Parade participants and attendees, as members of the Sippican Elementary School Band helped the “witches” of the Marion Art Center lead a procession that began at the Music Hall and went down Front Street, up Main Street past the Elizabeth Taber statue and onto Spring Street, where children were met at Town House by staff members handing out candy for the kids.
