Many thanks to the Youth Group for all their hard work preparing the evening’s Louisiana-style foods and for leading the games. Scout Camp Fire24 viewsMarion Boy Scouts Troop 32 and Cub Scouts Pack 32 are in need of assistance after a March 8 brush fire destroyed buildings and equipment at Camp Hadley. Marion Fire reported on its Facebook page that the department received a 911 call for a brushfire that got away from an adjacent property owner. Engine No. 1 arrived to discover the fire had quickly spread to both of the outbuildings used by Camp Hadley. Mutual aid followed from Wareham, Mattapoisett and Rochester Fire departments,

Marion Natural History Museum24 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum would like to thank David Orwig, forest ecologist with the Harvard Forest, for his wonderful presentation about Old Growth Forests on April 7. Orwig discussed some the tree species to look for and explained that the size of the tree does not matter when looking for truly old trees. He showed us how to determine the age of a tree, why the same species of tree might have different bark depending on age and why some of the oldest trees can be relatively small in size. A Vimeo

Bird Island24 viewsMany thanks to Marion Harbormaster Isaac Perry and the whole harbormaster crew for giving us the experience of a lifetime exploring the nesting habitats of the Common and Roseate Terns when they're in our area. Bird Island has had an extensive amount of work done to promote successful nesting habitat for these species, and it looks like it has paid off. Marion Natural History Museum24 viewsThe Marion Natural Museum after-school group had two great days exploring and mapping Ram Island with our hosts Michael and Hannah Moore. Our gracious hosts allowed us to explore the island beaches, streams, saltmarshes, open-water areas and Osprey nests. Some of the students who attend our programs had not been in a boat or explored an island before. The museum is so very thankful to the Moores for allowing us to explore and map the island.
