Marion Natural History Museum 98 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum community group and the Nasketucket Bird Club had a wonderful birding walk on November 16 led by Justin Barrett. We were able to identify over 18 different species of birds including belted kingfishers, golden-crowned kinglets, and red-breasted Nuthatches. Spruce Tree98 viewsAmidst wet snow that tailed off into a cold Tuesday morning, the large spruce tree situated between the Elizabeth Taber Library and Sippican Elementary School was taken down after it was found to be a safety hazard. The tree is believed to have sustained a recent lightning strike, and large sections of the tree showed major rot. Some of the wood will be used to add to the memorial to four Sippican students honored at the site since 2009, and the bottom 3 feet of the trunk was preserved.

The event included musical entertainment by Tri-County musicians, Grades 4 and 5 bands from Sippican Elementary School, Sippican Historical Society carolers and Tabor Academy students, horse-drawn carriage rides, street entertainment, seasonal refreshments courtesy of area merchants, goodie bags from VASE, and crafts for kids. Town of Marion Memorial Day98 viewsArmy veteran Charles Brown was the keynote speaker as the Town of Marion held its Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies on Monday morning with a procession from the Music Hall up Front Street to Old Landing, where Air Force Technical Sergeant Mandy Givens served as master of ceremonies that included an invocation by the Reverend Eric Osterday, the reading of “The Gettysburg Address” by Old Rochester Regional High School sophomore Amanda Tomasso of Mattapoisett, the reading of “In Flanders Fields”

Marion Natural History Museum 98 viewsLast week, the Marion Natural History Museum welcomed Bethany Jakubson of Amazing Animal Ambassadors. Bethany brought in some of her most adorable mammals, including a Fennec Fox (native to Africa), a Tenrec (native to Madagascar), a Hedgehog named Peter Quill, a Chinchilla and a skunk.
