Marion Town Party29 viewsEllie O’Brien, 5, of Marion smiles down from the peak of a climbing wall, part of the fun children had at the Marion Town Party on August 27 at Silvershell Beach. Inflatable arcade games, cornhole, an informal football toss and an undefinable ball game inside a walled octagon kept kids running and laughing, while their parents and grandparents socialized over barbecue and beverages. Marion Natural History Museum 29 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Paul Gregory for sharing his collection of shells and fossils with students who wish to start their own. Along with perusing guidebooks to identify an item, we learned the importance of the history of the artifact, where and when it was collected and by whom. Natural history museums are wonderful resources for students, artists and scientists.

The first-floor gallery perfectly fits the mostly petite still-life paintings done by Anne and in this exhibit. Her careful eye for color and form in these works demonstrate Anne's skill for giving you all the needed details while not overloading the view. The glass half full of water with a single stem advancing towards the lip is simple but full of expression, telling its own s

Bird Island29 viewsMany thanks to Marion Harbormaster Isaac Perry and the whole harbormaster crew for giving us the experience of a lifetime exploring the nesting habitats of the Common and Roseate Terns when they're in our area. Bird Island has had an extensive amount of work done to promote successful nesting habitat for these species, and it looks like it has paid off. The students had a blast, carefully walking around birds’ eggs and nests on their way to the Bird Island Lighthouse for a quick tour to the top to learn a
