On April 27, we were able to make it to Bird Island to view the nesting boxes that have been set up by the state for the soon-to-arrive terns, which rely on this island as a safe spot to raise their young. Marion Natural History Museum31 viewsOn June 8, the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ram Island in Marion. The students watched various crabs in the salt marsh, visited several of the occupied Osprey nests and walked the shoreline looking for shells. We also had the opportunity to visit Clara and Darcy, the Moore’s pet donkeys. Marion Village Christmas Stroll31 viewsDespite eventual rain, the Marion Village Christmas Stroll was enjoyed by many on Sunday afternoon. The event included musical entertainment by Tri-County musicians, Grades 4 and 5 bands from Sippican Elementary School, Sippican Historical Society carolers and Tabor Academy students, horse-drawn carriage rides, street entertainment, seasonal refreshments courtesy of area merchants, goodie bags from VASE, and crafts for kids. Marion Natural History Museum31 viewsOn March 13, the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group enjoyed hearing about planets, stars, galaxies and the universe with amateur astronomer Peter Marshall. Peter specializes in studying and taking photos of these rarely seen objects from his home in Rochester, and the kids were happy to share their astronomical insights with the group. Band Blast30 viewsSippican Elementary School hosted Band Blast on June 24, as El Caribe entertained visitors who enjoyed a rocking party full of fun and frolic on the front lawn of the school. Pumpkin Palooza30 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman
