First Congregational Church of Marion Summer Fair166 viewsThe First Congregational Church of Marion Summer Fair was held on July 27 with an effort to raise funds for the restoration of its clock tower. Main Street was closed to traffic so visitors could enjoy several booths full of goods for sale, along with sports equipment, while visiting the Penny Pinchers’ Exchange, a lobster roll or a burger or dog from the grill. A bake sale was conducted on church grounds. Photos by Mick Colageo

Running with Hannah165 viewsHannah Strom ran from Island Wharf down Front Street to Silvershell Beach on Sunday morning, surrounded by her brother and friends. The accomplishment is a major step in the Marion native’s long road back from severe injuries sustained last January in a horrific crash while traveling in Florida with the Holy Cross rowing team. At the end of her run, her father surprised her with a puppy. The Tabor Academy graduate plans to go back to the Worcester-based college and rejoin the rowing program.

Marion Natural History Museum165 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank state forester James Rassmen for helping us to better understand the importance of trees and forests. We learned that not all tree rings are alike, how to tell how old a white pine is, and the importance of trees in combating climate change. Marion Natural History Museum165 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a terrific time constructing their own rockets for launching. This program was so popular it had to be offered twice! The kids had a hands-on introduction to the engineering principles of propulsion and lift. Every rocket managed a successful launch hundreds of feet in the air, and most were safely carried down by the parachutes. The Museum wishes to thank volunteers Mike Cronin and his son Jake for the great program. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidho
