Marion Natural History Museum219 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum recently held a workshop on the many apps available to help people identify birds in the field. Justin Barrett, Nasketucket Bird Club president and museum board member, went over how best to use apps from Audubon, Cornell, Sibley and many others. We also learned how to record a bird or birds and have each one identified by call simultaneously. The museum wishes to thank Justin for his interesting presentation, and we look forward to our next walk

Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day218 viewsLittle kids and big, big machines on a warm spring Marion morning made for tons of fun at the Marion Recreation’s Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day on May 10. A row of different Town-owned vehicles including a police cruiser, ambulance, earth diggers, a fire engine, and fire trucks lined the Town House field. Elizabeth Taber Statue218 viewsOn July 14, work began on the Elizabeth Taber Statue site at Bicentennial Park in Marion. The site will include granite steppers, concrete paving, lighting, two wooden benches and a granite bench for Elizabeth to sit on. There will be room on either side of the granite bench for folks to sit and thank Elizabeth for all that she did for Marion. Elizabeth Taber Statue217 viewsA murky morning gave way to a sun-drenched celebration of Elizabeth Taber as the bronze statue of “Marion’s Fairy Godmother” was officially unveiled on October 17 in Bicentennial Park. Representatives from the Celebrate Elizabeth Taber Committee, Town of Marion officials, and sculptor Erik Durant addressed a large gathering of citizens who collected stickers and enjoyed music by the Academy Brass Quartet along with cupcakes. Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 216 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School.
