Marion Natural History Museum205 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group had a wonderful time learning about “Amazing Arthropods” with entomologist Blake Dinius of Plymouth County Extension Service. Members of the group were able to handle a couple of beautiful Io moths, which as caterpillars feed on maple leaves. After warming up with hot cider and cookies, we walked along Joanne Drive, stopping to sing Christmas carols for many of the residents. About 12 dogs of all shapes and sizes brought their humans out for a guided tour of the White Eagle property located off Route 6 in Marion. Dogs received stylish orange neckerchiefs and dog treats. Annual Marion SpringFest203 viewsMay 9 was the day of the Annual Marion SpringFest sponsored by the Sippican Lands Trust and the Tree and Parks Committee! There was a performance by the Toe Jam Puppet Band, a Birds of Prey demonstration, face painting, and a rock-climbing wall. Marion Village 5K203 viewsThe number of participants in this year’s Marion Village 5K might have been down slightly according to race organizers, but the sentiment of fun and competition certainly was not on Saturday, June 25. Taking first place for men was Andrew Sukeforth of Middleboro with a time of 15:43, and Meg Hughes of Rochester won first place in the women’s division with a time of 19:50. Elizabeth Taber Statue203 viewsOn July 14, work began on the Elizabeth Taber Statue site at Bicentennial Park in Marion. The site will include granite steppers, concrete paving, lighting, two wooden benches and a granite bench for Elizabeth to sit on. There will be room on either side of the granite bench for folks to sit and thank Elizabeth for all that she did for Marion. Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk203 viewsDespite a downpour perfectly timed for its planned gathering on Friday off Point Road in Marion, the Sippican Lands Trust celebrated the completion of the new Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk. Executive Director Jim Bride and president Alan Harris held a live Zoom meeting for those who could not attend, and some of the donors for the project assisted in the ribbon-cutting. Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 202 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School.
