Warm weather and very little wind added up to a perfect opportunity to explore the island during it’s shore bird “off season”. We looked for left over eggs, bones and nesting material. We also had an opportunity to visit the light house and take in views from the top, which included Cape Cod and the canal railroad bridge. Thank you for the great trip! Many thanks to soil scientist Maggie Payne of the USDA's Natural Resource and Conservation Service. We learned what makes a "good" soil and why that's important to everyone, from farming to building a house. We had the opportunity to see terns, geese, ducks, cormorants, and oystercatchers, as well as a trip to the top of the lighthouse. Fireworks Gala172 viewsPeople were still trickling in at 8:00 pm as the Marion Fireworks Committee’s second annual beach party on April 5 started picking up the pace with music and lights provided by Fun 107’s Michael Rock, and guests holding drinks with little umbrellas began shaking their hips. Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 172 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School. VASE member Diana Martin organized the event, with the support of about 12 volunteers who assisted that morning in making sure the two races went off without a hitch. Photo by Felix Perez
