Taber Fall Lapsit Program286 viewsThe Fall Lapsit Program for babies kicked off on October 7 at the Taber Library in Marion. Babies and their caregivers enjoy 20 minutes of stories and 20 minutes of social time. Children’s Librarian Rosemary Gray delighted five happy babies with some peekaboo, short stories such as Where is Baby’ Belly Button, and songs like the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Marion Fire Department286 viewsThe Marion Fire Department celebrated the careers of three of its retiring firefighters on November 8. Deputy Chiefs William Scott, Charles Blanchette, and Scott Cowell were toasted (and roasted) by Marion Fire Chief Thomas Joyce before family and friends at the Marion VFW Saturday night. The wives of MacDougal and Blanchette, and the daughter of Cowell, attached new deputy chief badges on the three gentlemen during the pinning ceremony, and the three selectmen honored the retiring chiefs with gifts.

Submersibles286 viewsSteering, propulsion and buoyancy were the topics at-hand during the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group’s latest program, “Submersibles” with engineer Mark Whalen. The students had a chance to conduct a variety of experiments and create their own mini-submersibles to take home. Marion Village 5K286 viewsThe Marion Village 5K is in its 19th year, and over 250 participants turned out to run the 3.1-mile course along the waterfront and through the quaint Marion village. Book Collection286 viewsSix-year old Kennedy Zussy of Marion spent most of the year collecting books to establish libraries in New Bedford schools. The course takes runners from Tabor Academy down Front Street through the village and back again to Tabor. Little Neck Village 286 viewsMore than 25 residents of Little Neck Village in Marion recently celebrated the property’s 5th annual Summer Hawaiian Luau. Residents enjoyed traditional Hawaiian food and entertainment that included a sing along, limbo, drums and a resident dance contest.
