Living History 179 viewsIt looked like July 8, 1776 at Silvershell Beach in Marion this past Saturday. Folks from the Fairhaven Village Militia and Wareham Militia Group in conjunction with Marion Recreation and the Marion Cultural Council took spectators back in time to Colonial Massachusetts during a weekend-long encampment at the beach. Participants in olde-tyme apparel demonstrated what life was like in the 1770s during the Revolutionary War through demonstrations of drilling, cooking, and flintlock musket use. Photos by Jean

Marion Halloween Parade 2017179 viewsHalloween in the Marion village is one event that shouldn’t be missed! Hundreds upon hundreds of little ghosts, ghouls, and goblins took to the streets to show off their costumes and follow it up with some treats (no tricks) and refreshments at the Marion Music Hall, sponsored by those very kind witches at the Marion Art Center. The Sippican School students led the parade under the direction of Hannah Moore. Photo by Paul Lopes

Fireworks Gala178 viewsPeople were still trickling in at 8:00 pm as the Marion Fireworks Committee’s second annual beach party on April 5 started picking up the pace with music and lights provided by Fun 107’s Michael Rock, and guests holding drinks with little umbrellas began shaking their hips. There was the scent of tropical coconutty sunblock in the air as guests perused the items up for auction, including a luxury African photo safari valued at $5,500. Photo by Jean Perry

Field Day Fun at Sippican School 178 viewsFriday morning we caught some first-graders in the middle of a hula-hoop relay on the grounds of Sippican School. Holding hands and cheering each other on, the kids twisted and turned themselves through the hoops and the first team to get their hoop to travel down and up the line again won the relay. Can you guess which team won? Photo by Jean Perry

100th Birthday178 viewsIf you see Marion Connors, wish her a Happy 100th Birthday! Connors’s daughter Patricia Normand credits the two-mile daily walks up until Marion was 90, and her daily half a glass of red wine for her mother’s longevity. Family and friends celebrated with Marion at the Sippican Healthcare Center activities room on Friday, June 13. Marion turns 100 today, June 14. By Jean Perry
