The Tabor Academy history teacher shared his experiences in Vietnam with a small group of Marion residents last week at the Elizabeth Taber Library, bringing with him a seeming fortune in Vietnamese Dong, a treasure trove of handicrafts, and hundreds of photos, some of which he presented with a little academic insight and plenty of comical commentary.

Taber Fall Lapsit Program293 viewsThe Fall Lapsit Program for babies kicked off on October 7 at the Taber Library in Marion. Babies and their caregivers enjoy 20 minutes of stories and 20 minutes of social time. Children’s Librarian Rosemary Gray delighted five happy babies with some peekaboo, short stories such as Where is Baby’ Belly Button, and songs like the Itsy Bitsy Spider. 2014 Scouting For Food293 views2014 Scouting For Food a great success! The Marion Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Troop 32 would like to thank the residents of Marion for their generous contributions to the recent Scouting for Food. Close to 200 bags of non-perishable goods were collected. The Scouts would also like to thank their partners in this effort, the Marion Police Brotherhood, for all their support and assistance.

Marion Village Stroll293 viewsThere were hundreds strolling the streets during the 2014 Marion Holiday Stroll on December 14. Celebrity sightings included Santa Claus on his carriage, the Grinch, the Nutcracker, and Sparky the Fire Dog. The Showstoppers and The Sippican School Marching Band lit up the afternoon until the tree lighting ceremony lit up the night, the finale of that starry-skied evening. Marion Art Center Members Show293 viewsMembers of the Marion Art Center showcased their work during the opening reception of the MAC Annual Winter Members Show on January 9. Members were allowed to submit up to three pieces, and MAC Executive Director Deborah Bokelkamp said members not only have artistic skill, but they possess the skill of self-expression. “The person doing it feels it,” said Bokelkamp. “It’s not just the act, it’s the expression.” The show runs until February 28.
