Sweet Charity542 viewsMembers of the ORR Student Council recently raised $1,600 for My Sister’s Keeper Charity, a women-led humanitarian action group co-founded by Liz Walker, anchorwoman for Channel 4 News in Boston. Members of the Student Council pose here with Liz (back center) during a recent visit to the Mattapoisett campus. With this donation they will be able to supply 50 girls with books, paper, uniforms, and writing utensils for the entire school year.

Bike Safety Day540 viewsThe Marion Police Department sponsored a Bicycle Safety Day for children and young adults at Silvershell Beach on Saturday morning, August 2. The day included bicycle safety information, a rodeo course and certificate awards for all participants. In addition, the Marion Police Department was awarded a statewide grant by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security to provide 75 bicycle helmets during the event. Although initially slated to take place in the parking lot adjacent to the Marion General Store, the weekend’s rainy weather forced the event indoors. Marion Natural History Museum540 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group enjoyed learning about minerals and fossils with geologist Jim Pierson. The group also compared various artifacts such as relative sizes of Megaladon teeth versus White Shark, and took a look at many examples of fossils such as fish, leaves, and the tiny tracks of a trilobite.
