Marion Holiday Stroll261 viewsThe Marion village streets were filled with holiday revelers on Sunday, December 9, for the annual Marion Holiday Stroll. Santa’s boat docked at the Marion Wharf where the faces of hundreds of children lit up at his arrival. Santa boarded a horse-drawn carriage and paraded through the streets, passing businesses offering free goodies and dodging the whereabouts of that old Grinch who didn’t seem to mind Christmas coming at all this year. Marion Fire Department 261 viewsSunday was a solemn day for the Tri-Town and its first responders as many gathered to honor Thomas Nye, 72, a 45-year veteran of the Marion Fire Department who died February 27 in the line of duty. Over 100 firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel from the Tri-Town and beyond marched together down Route 6 in Mattapoisett on March 3 to pay their respects to their fallen comrade who suffered a cardiac arrest at home after assisting in a fire call the night before. One of the highlights was they we were able to take a close look at the largest Pipefish we’d ever seen. The fund raiser was originally scheduled to run for two nights and to include Sunday but was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy. Klondike Derby 260 viewsThe Marion Boy Scouts Troops 32 competed in the Klondike Derby held at Camp Cachalot in Carver, MA. All of the competing towns had to use sledges and Klondike Gold Rush themes to compete in a race. The winning troop earned a grand outdoor winter adventure. The event helps the scouts test their basic camping and survival skills.
