Ton of Donations347 viewsOn Monday, December 8th Marion Cub Scout Pack 32, held a very successful drive for Gifts to Give Charity. The boys collected literally a “ton” of donations, approximately 2,000 pounds of toys, clothing and household goods! Gifts to Give provides a place for anyone, including children to give back to their local community, by donating gently used items and repurposing them for children in need.

Turtle Care347 viewsSome of the residents of Jenney Lane at The Cove in Marion have found a new passion in rescuing diamond-backed terrapin eggs and safely releasing the hatchlings into the wild. A private neighborhood group, along with “Turtle Guy” Don Lewis and wife Sue Weiber Nourse, created a terrapin habitat restoration project knows as the turtle garden at The Cove. The project has seen success this year with an increase in new terrapin nests over last year. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Natural History Museum347 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Marion Harbormaster Isaac Perry for another fun trip around Sippican Harbor. The students explored Meadow Island and enjoyed some of the local attractions of our harbor from the water. Each child also got to steer the boat back from the island and learn about the onboard electronic equipment that kept us safe from underwater hazards. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Marion Natural History Museum347 viewsOn Valentines Day, the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had a chance to learn about humpback and right whales. Dr. Moore of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution showed the students how a drone may be used to observe a whale's spout to determine its health. We also had a chance to view bubble-netting practices of humpbacks, see how baleen plates fit in a whale's mouth, and discussed the hazards the whales face due to entanglements in fishing gear. Marion Natural History Museum347 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a great time learning the difference between wild animal tracks, including coyote, raccoon, and bobcat. We also enjoyed practicing how to move like various animals by waddling, walking, bounding, and hopping. Bounding like a fisher cat and hopping like a snow shoe hare were by far the most difficult gaits to practice due to the placement of the rear feet versus the front. Many thanks to Jennifer Carlino for sharing her considerable expertise with us
