Tabor Academy Polar Plunge370 viewsTabor Academy hosted its second annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, January 21 at Silvershell Beach to raise money for the school’s Special Olympics Young Athletes Program. Students from ‘fundraising rival’ Sandwich High also showed up, with scores of students and staff making a dash in and quickly out of the chilly waters. The plunge raised about $8,000. Marion 4th of July Horse Show370 viewsQuite the crowd cantered over to Washburn Park after the parade for the annual Marion 4th of July Horse Show. This is the 71st year of the horse show, which is supposedly the longest running horse show in the region.

We looked at some amazing gastropod and bivalve shells from the museum's historic collections, then we used shells to design our own animals and shared what type of habitat these animals might live in. Marion Natural History Museum370 viewsOver the past two Wednesdays, the MNHM afterschool group visited Bird Island courtesy of Isaac and Peter of the Marion Harbormaster's office. We observed many terns arriving to this crucial nesting spot, as well as oystercatchers, gulls, and a pair of Canadian geese. We inspected nesting boxes prepared by the state Fish & Wildlife department and the habitat restoration improvements to the island. We also toured the 200-year-old lighthouse.
