National Night Out321 viewsEEE can’t stop the NNO! (And neither can a little rain and thunder.) Despite an EEE “high risk” alert, the 7th annual Tri-Town National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6, was underway in front of ORR attracting locals to enjoy a summer afternoon of interacting with our emergency first responders and exploring the tools of their trade. Block Party!320 viewsIt was a little earlier than usual, but the annual Marion Block Party on August 28, 2010 went off without a hitch. Children enjoyed cotton candy, a bounce house and face-painting, while the grown-ups enjoyed conversation and good weather. It was an appropriate send-off to summer, before Old Rochester schools started back up on September 1. Photo by Felix Perez.

Marion Natural History Museum320 viewsDuring our after-school netting program at the Harbormaster's beach, the students had a chance to study a variety of our seashore animals. The totals were: 278 silversides, 14 mummichogs, 1 pipefish, 15 glass shrimp, 10 moon jellies, 1 sea nettle and 3 sea robins. There were many other larger fish but we couldn't get close enough to identify them. We were lucky enough to have a warm sunny day to enjoy the activity, and the museum would like to thank the student helpers from both Tabor Academy and ORRHS.
