Salty Soiree75 viewsThe annual Mattapoisett Land Trust Salty Soiree held on October 22 at Dunseith Park was a huge success, as young and old enjoyed a fire pit, 200 luminaries and s'mores. Mattapoisett Polar Plunge75 viewsNew Year’s Day 2023 was bright and balmy when over 100 “plungers” ran, walked, hopped and slid into the freezing waters at Mattapoisett Town Beach. The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. The group has been successful in their efforts to help offset the unseen costs associated with a cancer diagnosis impacting local families. Shining Tides Multiuse Pathway75 viewsThe official opening of the Shining Tides multiuse pathway took place on June 12 with approximately 75 people gathered to applaud the 20-year effort. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation hosted the ribbon-cutting event where the elevated bridge span crosses the Mattapoisett River and Eel Pond marshlands. Tornado in Mattapoisett75 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Mattapoisett’s Fire Department75 viewsMattapoisett’s Fire Department opened its doors to the community on October 12 with a grand party filled with family, friends and pizza. The event was an opportunity for the department to highlight fire prevention while tiny tots donned helmets and rang the bell on an antique fire engine. “It’s a great success,” said Chief Andrew Murray of the event that hosted several hundred people of all ages. New Fire Engine Number 3 was on display having just a day before been added to the fleet.
