Tornado in Mattapoisett78 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. All were participating on the 22-mile ride of the recent Tour de Crème fundraising event held by the Mattapoisett Land Trust. The MLT estimated 350 riders this year, along with 100 volunteers and seven awesome, participating creameries.
