Tool Donation79 viewsTim Moll of Mattapoisett set up a tool and equipment trailer at the Mattapoisett Harbormaster's Office on August 27 to collect donations for the Mattapoisett Boatyard. A friend of boatyard owner David Kaiser and a "fellow boatyard guy," Moll said people have been generous in the wake of the August 19 fire that destroyed the boatyard, including several widows who offered to donate the contents of their husbands’ sheds and garages.

The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. The group has been successful in their efforts to help offset the unseen costs associated with a cancer diagnosis impacting local families. Arbor Day79 viewsMattapoisett's Tree Committee held its annual Arbor Day poster contest in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation on March 2. Forty-three Old Hammondtown fifth-grade students participated in this year's contest. The winner will have their poster with the theme "It’s time for trees" entered into the state-wide competition. The poster contest is an ongoing effort by the Tree Committee to enlighten children regarding the importance of trees in our landscapes.

The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Holiday in the Park 79 viewsMattapoisett's annual Holiday in the Park held on December 9 was a grand success. Buffet-style food tables featured delicious items from local restaurants and shops, from donuts to pizza to Chinese offerings and more.
