The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Whale Bark Wanderer44 viewsMattapoisett Museum Curator Connor Gaudet and volunteer Bob Clifford unpack the custom model of the Whale Bark Wanderer 1878 recreated by artist George Lowery from scratch and donated to the museum. The model arrived on Tuesday afternoon from Arizona in a crate weighing a total of 181 pounds. Mattapoisett Public Library43 viewsOn March 19, the Mattapoisett Public Library hosted another chapter in their sustainability programing with a taste testing of plant-based alternatives to cow's milk. "Milk" from oatmeal, almonds, coconuts, rice, flax seed, soy and even hemp were sipped and evaluated on several criteria including taste. The consensus was mixed with some milks tasting too strongly of their base ingredient such as almonds, too sweet and even too salty, while others passed the test.

Mattapoisett Land Trust43 viewsOn May 6, volunteers from the Mattapoisett Land Trust planted over two dozen sunflower seedlings in a row along Route 6 at Dunseith Park, just in front of Salty the Seahorse. Don Cuddy donated the seedlings and organized the planting as a symbolic gesture of MLT standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
