Anthony DeCosta 207 viewsAnthony DeCosta was well known in Mattapoisett as a painter and the co-author of a book about the first Portuguese residents in the town. Born in 1892, he was a lifelong resident, except for the years he drove an ambulance during World War I. In his later years, he painted pictures of Mattapoisett, including the Ned’s Point Lighthouse, the whaling ship The Wanderer, and of New Bedford’s streets during the whaling years. Poetry207 viewsBodil Perkins recently made this book for her aunt, Ann Briggs, who is 90 years old and has lived in Mattapoisett most of her life. The book contains 42 poems and the library recently said it was a "delightful book" and will be accepting a donated copy. Ann started taking poetry classes in her 80s.

Brad Hathaway206 viewsIt took 32 years, but on October 3 Mattapoisett resident Brad Hathaway completed his “Walk around the World” along Aucoot Road, accompanied by well over 100 friends and supporters of his mission refocused some years ago from what had begun as a fitness prescription to a fundraising effort for the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Hathaway, 88, is a co-founder of the MLT and has dedicated his life toward preserving and protecting lands that his ancestors first came upon hundreds of years ago.

Christmas Day Plunge205 viewsAt 94, Bob Humphrey was the elder statesman participating in the Christmas Day plunge held at Mattapoisett Town Beach, which including 47 swimmers and raised $2,595 in donations for the benefit of Helping Hands & Hooves.
