Lost Elm313 viewsMattapoisett has lost one of the last remaining American elm trees planted throughout the community during the mid-twentieth century. Tree Warden Roland Cote said that despite valiant efforts over the past year to save this once grand specimen located in Shipyard Park, the tree lost its battle with Dutch Elm disease. Concern over public safety helped Cote make the difficult decision to take the tree down. Cote said a red maple tree would be planted nearby. Photo by Marilou Newell
