Hammond Quarry343 viewsMattapoisett Land Trust President Mike Huguenin led a group of about 52 people on a walk about Hammond Quarry, a historical property off Mattapoisett Neck Road that the MLT is hoping to acquire next year. Pink granite was mined from the site between the early 1700s through the early 1900s, and the MLT plans to purchase the property to preserve the quarries and carve out trails for public access. Doggie Walk-A-Thon343 viewsThe Doggie Walk-A-Thon held on August 26 in Mattapoisett village is the brainchild of Freemin Bauer, whose dream is to one day create a dog park in town. Bauer’s dog walk-a-thon last year for his Boy Scout Eagle project raised money to make repairs to the Fairhaven Animal Shelter. This year, he raised money towards a dog park.

The storm brought strong wind and cold rain to the area, especially at the turn around Ned’s Point Lighthouse, dampening the day but not the sentiment behind the Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts’ largest annual fundraising event.
