Family Fun Festival 371 viewsFamilies came out in record numbers to enjoy the 4th Annual Fall Free Family Fun Festival sponsored by the Mattapoisett’s Lion Club on October 19 held at Shipyard Park. Bruce Rocha of the club estimated attendance at over 400. Kids and adults alike enjoyed free face painting, bowling with pumpkins, a corn hole toss, snacks, hayrides to Ned’s Point and, yes, free pumpkins to take home. Usually held in New Bedford, race organizer Geoff Smith moved the race to Mattapoisett, flooding the village streets with hundreds of Santas – and a few Christmas miniature horses, as well. Christmas Holiday Shop370 viewsSt. Anthonys and St. Ritas parishioners combined efforts to give the community a Christmas Holiday Shop and Celebration on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The basement of St. Anthonys church was decked out in snowflakes, wreaths, bells, bows, and a Santa sleigh. Santa listened patiently as children told him what they wanted for Christmas. Mattapoisett Town Oyster Farmer370 viewsBill Mansfield has become the de facto Mattapoisett town oyster farmer, overseeing the town’s oyster farming program since 2014. His efforts coupled with a crew of about 20 other volunteers has taken on the labor-intensive work of rearing young oysters to maturity in Pine Island Pond.
