Learning From The Past1232 viewsThird Grade students at Rochester’s Memorial School recently got acquainted with Rochester’s rich, historic past thanks to members of the Rochester Historical Commission. Students were treated to a hands-on experience with old toys, primitive household items and educational tools, and learned about early church customs, Rochester’s Native Americans, and changes in the town boundaries as Marion, Mattapoisett, and Wareham eventually broke off from the large township of Rochester to form their own towns.

Survivor Lessons1083 viewsOn March 3, a holocaust survivor visited Meg McKeon’s History class at Old Rochester Regional High School to share her memories from the war. Ms. Elizabeth Dopazo, an eleven-year-old at the time of the war, she was invited to speak to Ms. McKeon’s class through an organization called Facing History and Ourselves. “These students really are the last generation who will be able to meet a survivor face to face,” Ms. McKeon said.
