Tri-Town Bike Benefit521 viewsSeveral hundred children and their parents braved soggy conditions to participate in the first annual Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) Tri-Town Ride for Kids on Saturday, May 19 starting at Center School on Barstow Street in Mattapoisett. The young bikers arrived with the goal of pedaling their way towards raising $10,000 in the fight to find a cure for cancer. Local Idols520 viewsMembers of the Showstoppers Musical Entertainment based in Mattapoisett recently took top honors at two regional Performing Arts Competitions. Nine girls competed with six entries at the Dynamite National Talent Competition at Quinsigamond College in Worcester on April 14 and ten girls competed with eight entries in the Headliners Performing Arts Competition held at East Providence High School in East Providence, RI. The group took home several awards from both events.

Senior Spring Fling520 viewsSeniors from Mattapoisett, Marion and Rochester participated in the eighth annual “Spring Fling” dance party on Sunday, May 6 in the Sippican School cafeteria. The event was hosted by the Marion Council on Aging (COA) with a group of student volunteers from Old Rochester Regional Junior High School, who not only helped serve refreshments, but also joined their elders on the dance floor for some contemporary and traditional dances. Mom's Marathon '07520 viewsAn estimated 400 runners and walkers came out to the Oxford Creamery in Mattapoisett on Sunday, May 13 to participate in the first annual Tiara Classic Mother’s Day 5K Road Race. The most impressive feat of the day was accomplished by runner Mary Cass (above) who won the women’s portion of the race, outdistancing the competition by several hundred feet while pushing her daughters, Acadia and Naomi, in a jogging stroller.
